Survey
data
Available
datasets
The
following survey data are available for download from the Malawi
Diffusion and Ideational Change Project:
i. Cross-sectional, individual-level data
• MDICP-1, Women
• MDICP-1, Men
• MDICP-2,
Women
• MDICP-2, Men
ii. Cross-sectional, couple data
• MDICP-1, Husbands and wives
• MDICP-2, Husbands and wives
iii. Longitudinal, individual-level data
• MDICP-1 and MDICP-2, Women
• MDICP-1 and MDICP-2, Men
iv. Longitudinal,
couple-level data
• MDICP-1 and MDICP-2, Husband
and wives* [2.5KB]
*Because
of the large number of variables in this file, STATA/SE (not Intercooled)
is required. Users who need to use the longitudinal couple-level data for a subset
of variables can either create smaller files from the longitudinal individual-level
data and then merge them, or can contact
us.
Helpful Documents
Users
of the Malawi data should use the questionnaires as
their dictionary since the variable names are directly equivalent
to the questions' numbers.

Interviewer Training Documents for MDICP 1 and MDICP 2.
Access
The
MDICP data are available to researchers unconditionally. However,
in order to be able to communicate with the users about data-related
issues that might arise in the future, we need to know who is
using them. For this reason, we request that the users fill out
a registration form prior to downloading the files.
Because
of the widespread concern about Internet privacy, we wish to
stress the complete confidentiality of the Social Networks website.
The information we gather will not be used for any commercial
purposes.

Note about public use
In
order to make the data suitable for public use all names of individuals
and villages have been removed from the data (for both respondents
and their named network partners in the social networks component
of the questionnaire). Users who would like to have access to
these names in order to conduct follow-up research on any of
our samples (which we encourage), and users interested in special
data configurations, should contact
us.
Download
Users
can download any of the data in STATA format (we recommend Stat/Transfer to
change the format to SAS, SPSS or some other statistical platform).
To download, simply double-click on the file(s) above of your
choice and, when prompted,
enter the username and password that you have previously selected
when registering.
Note that to save space and reduce transfer time all files are compressed.
To uncompress the files use either the free software Winzip or
a DOS/UNIX-based utility, such as pkzip.
If
you have any problem downloading the data, please contact
us.
