Qualitative
projects
The
MDICP has conducted three qualitative projects to provide information
that cannot be collected in a short-answer survey about topics
covered in the questionnaire as well as to explore other topics.
These are:
1) Semi-structured interviews in 1999 with a random sample of MDICP
respondents (the Let’s
Chat interviews);
3) Small sets of interviews to explore selected topics, including:
- the
reliability of male reports of extra-marital partners ("mobile
men" interviews),
- sexually
transmitted infections other than HIV (STDs),
and
- religion.
2)
Field journals kept
by local observers.
In
addition, several qualitative projects were associated with
the MDICP: Amy Kaler on the elderly’s
perceptions of change and the
challenges of introducing
new methods of contraception;
Enid Schatz on measuring
aspects of gender; Linda Tawfik
on the timing of the onset
of sexual activity and extramarital partnerships.
